Raymond Dart, Australian anatomist and anthropologist, created a series of movements which reproduce our process of learning to become upright.
Dart examined the relationship between different positions of weight-bearing and the effect these positions have on the nervous system; as well as the importance of rotational movements, in conjunction with flexion and extension.
In the Dart Procedures, the sequence of movements seen in a baby's natural exploratory progression from lying to crawling to upright are systematically and consciously studied, to allow them to be reintegrated into daily mobility, which is particularly useful wherever that mobility may have been compromised.
This experiential journey through our developmental process offers valuable information - both personally and professionally.
Our guide through this 9 month developmental exploration is Alexander Teacher/Trainer Delia Rosenboom.
Delia Rosenboom trained when 17, graduating from Fellside Alexander school in 1989. She teaches privately, has taught on many AT trainings, including teaching anatomy, embryology and singing, and is Director of the South East Alexander School, UK. She runs post-graduate workshops and offers supervision.
Delia has pioneered ways of using the AT to work with people in shock, states of trauma, bereavement, recovering from surgery... She is passionate about developing the quiet, listening qualities of one's hands and about honouring emotional and energetic releases alongside physical changes, as part of the work. Delia is also a Natural Voice Practitioner, a NLP practitioner and Mental Fitness Coach. www.deliarosenboom.co.uk
The Course is divided into 3 Sections:
1. Prone Movements
Prone Section 1 - 5 weeks, June 22 - July 20
An introduction to Dart, and to working in prone as an essential tool to enhance primary control, bump start head-led movement, awaken the 'inner wriggle' and to de-rotate habitual twists.
Prone Section 2 - 4 weeks, Sept 14 - Oct 5, 2021
An opportunity to further develop a practice of working in prone as an invaluable tool to address breathing, release flexor musculature, and to nourish and balance your energetic system.
2. Exploring the Limbs
Upper Limb - 7 weeks, Nov 2 - Dec 14, 2021
An opportunity to enhance shoulder/arm/hand organisation through the exploration of individuated and evolutionary-based movement, whilst discovering our 'fishy fins' and our 'alligator elbows’ to widen, open and expand the upper limb girdle.
Lower Limb - 5 weeks, Jan 11 - Feb 8, 2022
An opportunity to refine hip/knee/foot organisation, promoting muscular and bony individuation whilst discovering our ‘froggy legs’ as an expression of ‘Knees forwards and away’.
3. Evolving Upwards - 5 weeks, Feb 22 - March 22, 2022
Progressive, developmental, anti-gravity movements, venturing away from the security of the floor to explore foetal, muslim prayer, crawling, squatting, degrees of monkey… and eventually full standing onto tippy-toes!
All classes will be held on zoom on Tuesdays, at 4:30 pm, UK time; and will be recorded for your viewing ease.
You can take each Section individually, without prior Sections, or buy the previous Sections to take at your own pace.
