This 3 part Post Graduate Course is designed to offer you practical tools and new skill sets for making the Work more accessible in the world, while building your practice.  This material is designed to compliment the material you've learned through your training and practice - to deepen and broaden your skills so that you can help spread the Work to more people with ease, clarity and joy.

The Course has been developed by Robyn Avalon, Founding Director of the Contemporary Alexander School and Co-Director of the Alexander Alliance Europe. Robyn has been teaching in groups, large and small, for over 50 years.  In this Course, she has synthesized the essential skills required to effectively offer a direct experience of the Principles in a group setting, and through all activities and life situations.

The Course Material focuses on skills in 3 main areas:

• The Art of Group Teaching - offering the unique skill necessary for effective and interactive group teaching, allowing you to reach infinitely more people in your practice.  Topics include:

  • Teaching a Group is like Taking a Bath - tools for getting comfortable
  • Group Activities and Etudes for experiencing the Principles
  • the role of Storytelling
  • creating the experience rather then talking about it
  • including the group in witnessed lessons/turns
  • how to balance the time and phrasing
  • effective ways to introduce the Work
  • accessibility and learning styles
  • group dynamics and the Group Body

• Advanced Hand Skills - designed to support your ability to teach students through every activity of daily and professional life.   Topics include:

  • touching everywhere from anywhere
  • the importance of space and time orientations
  • achieving greater volume without adding effort
  • accessing different layers of mind and body through touch
  • using your 3rd hand (clear intention)
  • 'reading' a kinesthetic pattern through touch
  • touching thru varied parts of your hands/body
  • effective touch through varied timings 

• Advanced Applications - focusing on the the tools and techniques necessary for teaching through all activities, as well as how to teach your students to access the Work on their own in challenging and poignant real life situations.  Topics include:

  • how students can apply the Principles themselves, right away
  • using challenging real-life situations as the 'activity' 
  • reproducing the actual scenario  - for example, the AT classroom is different from the practice room, which is different from the performance itself 
  • meeting the student where they are
  • teaching while student are engaged in any activity - mundane or specialized, slow or fast, consistent or unexpected
  • skills for being able to effectively communicate through touch in all scenarios

The 3 courses available in varied locations throughout the year. They may be taken individually or collectively, and in any order. But, they are meant to function as a whole, with information from each class connecting with the material of the other classes, and therefore you will get the most out of the program by taking all 3 courses.

They are open to all AT teachers and trainees from all traditions and all levels of experience.
